HDMI out doesn’t work, otherwise OK

Works as advertised I suppose, from a recording standpoint at least. Needs better zoom and image stabilization (might as well throw in 1080p while you’re at it). Software seems to work OK and I didn’t have any issues updating the Flip to the latest firmware like some have.

I picked up an a/c HDMI cable to connect to my 60″ Mitsubishi tv but it doesn’t work. Flip tech support assumes everyone is an idiot/joe-average user and they are more annoying than they are helpful (insisting you try things you’ve already tried, etc.). Their website stinks too – a tech support forum would be helpful rather than dumbed down FAQ’s and an email contact form.

Modest but good for what it costs

Having made several vidoes with this unit, I think it is good for what it is.

The flip series video cams are small, light and easy to use. you can’t expect this item to perform like a far more expensive and complex item.

I like to use it to take spontaneous videos, more elaborate setups will require the use of a much better (and more expensive) item.

I like it, just understand its limitations.

For the price this is a great product. Audio and video quality are great, its easy to use and conveniently portable. I would buy products for this company again. I bought it on Amazon and had it in 2 days, all in all a great experience.

Not a Bad Little Gadget

Cons:

No HDMI cable included

Had to download software for PC

No light source

Can not customize video record settings

No still image option

Ultra is ultimately disappointing

This product has so much potential and I thought I was going to love it. I do love the ease of use and the software. There are two problems that ultimately lead me to give it a bad review.

1) There’s a glitch in two different cameras that I have had — even when you safely eject the device from the computer, the next time you try to turn it on, it doesn’t work. You have to go in and take out the battery and reset it to get it to turn on again. I thought this was a glitch in my first one — so I sent it back. The second one does the exact same thing. I sometimes have to take the battery out four or five times a day.

2) There is no possibility of repair on this camera for any of the main parts (the USB arm, the LCD screen, the lens, etc.). If one breaks, you’re out of luck — you might as well throw the camera away. It’s odd to see a $199 disposable camera. I got a crack in the glass covering my lens from a fairly light bump, and the company said “Sorry — buy a new one.” I was willing to pay to have it repaired, but that you cannot repair or replace any of these parts.

The zoom and audio aren’t great, but they’re OK. The picture quality actually was pretty good — and it was pretty easy to create videos with the software. I hope they make improvements with newer versions to solve the reset problem and to make the lens and parts more durable.

Flip Camcorder

Purchased the camera for my daughter and family for Christmas and they liked it so well I purchased one for myself. Love the portability, ease of use and quality of photos taken. Battery life has been very good as well. Being able to transfer videos to my computer so easily has been an added desired feature.

I received this lovely as a gift for Valentines day from my amazing girlfriend.

The video qualty is excellent during the day,while night filming can comeout a little grainey.

The software is dummy proof and provides a VERY easy transfer from flip to computer.

This is one of the best gits that I have ever received!

Common problem – beware

Battery charging problems – my flip ultra HD does not charge the battery, and cannot use the camera with the battery pack. I now learn this problem is a common problem with the FLIP camera. Other reviewers are reporting the same issue. If this happens within 30 days of purchase, you can exchange it with Amazon. Otherwise, you are stuck going through FLIP. Hopefully it happens within the measly 90 day Flip warranty period, or you will be flipping for the repair cost in addition to the shipping costs to get it to the Flip RMA center.

After my experience with this camera, and with very inconsistent customer support at FLIP, I would NOT recommend this camera purchase.

Fun little camcorder

I love the portability and ease of use of the Flip. It is much more convenient than my conventional camcorder for taking skiing and for other outdoor activities. However, neither the zoom or the microphone are as good. One thing I loved was that the controls are extremely easy to use and it takes alomost no time to learn how to use the Flip.

Breaks easily and poor product warranty of device

We’ve had the camera for less than 2 months and the lens cover cracked. The company does not cover the replacement or repair of this simple part.

In an age of portable devices from cameras and phones to music players and PDAs, this was poorly designed for portable use.

The FLIP Video response is an overall general and unhelpful one. Pretty much tells consumers you are $#!* out of luck.

If you want to throw away $200, buy this camera. If you want a product that last longer than 2 months, look elsewhere.
