    Good camera, funny output format.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The Everio camera takes nice video, and good stills, but the output format is a funny modified mpeg that puts the audio on a separate file which needs to be spliced back on to be viewed in anything but JVCs software making this camera a pain in the tail for Linux users. If you are a Windoze user I guess it’s fine…

Not bad if you find a good deal

Ok, so this isn’t the highest quality camera on the market. But, it is light, easy to use, and has decent picture quality. If you’ve got the money, spulrge on a higher rated $600 camera or hold out until prices on hi def camcorders come down more. If you don’t want to spend more than $400 or so, this is one of the best HDD cameras you can pick up.

    I love This camera

It has excellent functions and a great definition. the only thing that I do not like is the night vision because it is very slow.

$600 should buy better customer service

I received this product as a gift from my father for the birth of our first child. Within a month, the power/play/record switch began malfunctioning. It still works, but in order to turn the camera off, I have to leave it in the record position and close the viewer. Putting the camera in the OFF position actually drains the battery empty.

I sent it in to their service department just before the year was up. (Even though it broke right after I bought it, I was too busy with a newborn to get on it quickly). What I found out the hard way was that they warrantee their product ONLY FOR PARTS for the first year, and labor FOR ONLY 90 DAYS after purchase! They were willing to supply the $140 (!) part, but wanted to charge me $150 labor to fix it. So, in essence, their warranty really is only of value to you for the first 90 days. That’s not a big vote of confidence on their own product!

I was very polite to them on the phone (I wouldn’t want their job!), but nonetheless they were short and snooty (maybe something about living in los angeles?) Bottom line is that for $600 the camera shouldn’t break in the first month and their customer service (once you actually get a live person) has much to be desired. I will be avoiding JVC for all future purchases. I have never taken the time to leave an on-line review for anything, but I feel this strongly about this.

(BTW, HD camcorder is handy, easy transfer to PC, not great video quality, battery good, their editing software bad).

Hard drives are the only way to go for me now. I can’t believe how much easier and more functional they are than external storage. It’s completely change recording for me… more specifically changed the playback! Makes video clips easy to find and show and you can quickly and easily switch back to recording without having to find the end of tape. You never have to worry about recording over something accidentally and you don’t get little pieces of old recording in the gaps between recording sessions!!! I highly recommend it!

    BEST CAMCORDER EVER

I HAD PURCHASED ONE LAST YEAR AND WHEN I NEEDED TO GET A GRADUATION GIFT FOR MY DAUGHTER I WANTED HER TO HAVE THE SAME CAMERA. IT IS EASY TO USE AND WITHOUT HAVING TO PURCHASE TAPES OR DISC’S IT IS A BONUS. I HAVE THE ABILITY TO COPY THE RECORDINGS ONTO DVD’S AND THE QUALITY IS GREAT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO IS TIRED OF BUYING DISCS AND TAPES. IT IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE. SINCE MINE IS ONE YEAR OLD I CAN SAY IT IS USER FRIENDLY AND WORTH THE MONEY, WHICH IS GOING DOWN QUITE A BIT. THANK YOU DBNY

Artifacts?? What are you talking about??
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This camera works great, even in low light. Colors are clean, focus is clear, stabilization works fine. I don’t see any artifacts at all and I’ve been shooting video since 1988. My only complaint is that the start-up time ought to be quicker for a hard-drive camera. I picked up a slightly used specimen on ebay a few months ago for about $200-300 less than typical street prices and I am delighted with the results. Even the editing software does what I need it to do. If you want Hi-Def, then go take a gander at Hi-Def prices!

  9. D. Nguyen says:

    Do not buy this camera
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This camera is a big disappointment. I recorded outdoor in bright

sun light with highest (fine) setting but the picture quality is about same as VCD, not even comparable with video tape, that how bad it is.

Apparently JVC do not tell the truth when they said on their ads of DVD

quality… It is no where near.

I purchased from BestBuy and the selaman told me that I can try it

for 2 weeks… when I returned it, Bestbuy charge me 15% re-stocking fee

(of course, the policy printed on the back of the receipt, but I can

only read it AFTER purchasing) which is more tha $70.00,

    what’s a rip-off!!!

    PRETTY BAD!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I kept this camera for a short month before it got stolen, but in that brief time i was somewhat unpleased. The hard drive part of the camera was good, it sorts out all the videos for you so you can (as what all the advertisements say) keep shooting. The video quality was horrendous, i shot a few short films indoors and i just could not set the lighting right. It came out all fuzzy and the colors were bleak. Poor battery, too. Definitely stay away if you’re an independent filmmaker or care at least somewhat about video quality and if you edit video. The editing systems was awful with the way they expected you to use only their drag and drop (lame) software. And transfering video files to the computer was slow thanks to the USB 2.0 and no firewire. It is sleek and small and has a nice video light, but i would caution most consumers to stay away. If you still like what you see, spend the extra $100 or so and get the MG77.
